The April Meeting Of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was called to order by the President, Brenda Thibodeaux.
A moment of silence was observed for members of the military and our ancestors.
Treasurer, Warren LeBlanc, gave the treasurer's report. The beginning balance was $3868.08. The ending balance
is $2961.18. There are 12 new members and 13 unpaid members. Calice Breaux moved to accept the treasurer's report
and Herb Scheuermann seconded the motion.
Brenda Thibodeaux welcomed our guest speaker, Donald Arceneaux.
The group discussed changing the starting time of the Thursday meeting to 6:30 to allow extra time to get through
the traffic. Warren pointed out that this is the time in the by-laws, so a motion to amend was not needed.
Brenda reported that the Society received an email from Pam who was looking for information on a Basque ancestor
with the surname Tubre. Calice Breaux suggested a good reference for her. Anyone who has information can contact Brenda
The President asked Judy Trahan to fill in for Betty Hollier as acting secretary during Betty's absence.
The society published the Carencro Cemetary records. The book and/or CD can be purchased from Warren LeBlanc
for $30 book and $20 CD.
Everett Thompson gave a brief report on the society's survey. The information will be used by officers and members to
plan for speakers and events. Important points: 60% participation in survey. 97% plan to join in 2015. 80% considered
themselves on intermediate level in genealogy, 14% as novices. low attendance at annual banquet (45%).
Members are overwhelmingly happy with the club. Members ranked interacting with other members and learning about
genealogy highest on list of interests.
Brenda Thibodeaux thanked Everett for his time and energy in spear-heading the survey.
Donald Arceneaux presented a lively talk on his own family's genealogy and his research on the Attakapas Post and the early
censuses to 1770. His particular passion, Attakapas Census of 1769, has been translated and is ready to go to press at
Claitor's Publishing as an on-demand publication.
Members present at the meeting can pick up their copy of the 2014 Surname Index.
Calice Breaux moved to adjourn the meeting, and Martha Luby seconded the motion.
