President Brenda Fuselier gave an update of the Grand Reveil Acadien to be held across South Louisian during October 7 16 2011. This event was created to explore and celebrate the Acadian culture midway between the years of the Congree. Realizing that the language, culture and coastal lands are being threatened, Louisiane-Acadie was created to seek support, partnerships, solutions, and concerted plans of action through large gatherings with Acadians and their friends. The plan is to highlight the arrival and settlement of Acadians in Louisiana at New Orleans, Houma, Lake Charles, and Lafayette. The Lafayette Genealogical Society has voted to sponsor the visit of Stephen White, the authority of Acandian genealogy, attorney, and professor at the University of Moncton in Canada. Members will offer housing, transportation, and meals. The society has also engaged him to speak at an event to be held at the South Regional Library on Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 9 A.M. He will also speak in Houma on Saturday, October 8, 2011, in Lake Charles on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, and at a Grand Reveil ceremony at the Cajundome Convention Center, 444 Cajundome Blvd., Lafayette, LA 70506. Brenda reported that as plans become more concrete, members will be informed; she requested that members keep these dates free to be able to volunteer for needed duties of the Lafayette Genealogical Society. We will sponsor a table at the convention center to publicize our society and offer the societys publications for sale.Updates for the Grand Reviel Acadien can be found at the web site www.gra2011.org.

Box 39128, Indianapolis, IN 46239. The tele. # is1-800-429-0200. The web site is www.yogs.com. Or members may google Ye Olde Genealogie Shoppe.

Guest Cynthia Dartez requested assistance from the society in locating the names of parentage of some family members involved in litigation begun in 1922 to determine dispursement of funds from lease of land by an oil company. Talks with her will be continued with society members at a later time.

President Fuselier informed members that copies of Louisiana Death Certificates, begun in 1911-1912, are available at the Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, but prior to 50 years from the present date. She had several examples detailing what information might be gleened from a death certificate.

There being no further business, it was moved and seconded that the meeting be closed. Members were thanked for providing refreshments and guests were invited for coffee and refreshments.
