20 September 2007 Meeting
The September 2007 meeting of the Lafayette Genealogical Society was held in the Meeting Room of the Main Branch of the Lafayette Public Library on September 20, 2007 at 6:30 P.M. The meeting was called to order by President Charles Patterson. A moment of silence was observed, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. New members, Kathleen Short and Michael Castille, and a visitor, Henry Diamond were welcomed.
President Patterson announced the slate for the Society’s 2008 officers.

Members were requested to submit articles, family stories, charts, pictures, queries and any genealogical tidbits that may be interesting to our members and people interested in genealogy. Remember that our annual will by printed in a booklet form that will be distributed to area libraries; members will receive their annual on a CD that is distributed at the annual Christmas banquet.
The Lafayette Genealogical Society’s annual Christmas Banquet will be held December 6, 2007 at the Lafayette Petroleum Club beginning at 6:30 P.M.
President Patterson announced that Google has a site that is a free down-load that allows you to locate any name or subject within your own computer. It is available at Google.com, then click on “Desktop”.
It was announced the book, Images of Lafayette, will be available from its editor, Jean Kiesel, at the October meeting. It contains over 200 historic photographs of Lafayette from its founding in 1823 to the turn of the 21st century. The cost will be $19.99 and Jean will donate the profits from copies sold to members to the Lafayette Genealogical Society.
Members are reminded of the genealogical conference that will be held at the Lake Charles Civic Center on Saturday, October 27, 2007 from 8:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. There will be three speakers, vendors, and a box lunch for early registrants for the fee of $25.
