Dottie Burleigh gave a report on the conference that the Lafayette Genealogical Society will be presenting in October, which is National Genealogy Month.  The theme will be Ancestral Footprints to be held October 14, 2006 at Grace Presbyterian Church on Roselawn Boulevard in Lafayette, LA.  It has facilities that could accommodate a conference of this type.  Dottie announced committee chairmen: Promotion -Jo Ann Pugh, Welcoming-Beryl Anderson, Brochures-Jean Kiesel, Speakers-Glenda Shaw, Rentals-Earl Gates, Syllabus-Brenda Fuselier, Booths-James and Lona Bourque, Lunches-Martha Luby.  Door prizes and Guest Favors-Earl Gates, Registration- Warren LeBlanc.  Hopefully there will be sixteen speakers for four sessions of the conference.  The society needs to determine a guest registration fee and discount fees for members.  Expenses may be high so donations and sponsors may be solicited; the society may be asked to make up for lost expenses.  Plans are for at least one hundred people to attend; more are expected.  Dottie asked that the society accept the above mentioned recommendations so the committees can move forward.  Members were given a preliminary outline and comments were requested.  Registration fees were discussed and will be considered; pre-registration is encouraged.  2007 membership at registration would be available.  The tentative budget was Okayed by the Treasurer.  Suggestions for additional speakers were requested.  Committed speakers were as follows:
Cassandra Frederick                      Writing Your Family History
Edna Jones                                      Whats In A Name
Jean Kiesel                                      Land Records
Charles Patterson                            Scanning and Using Pictures

Daniel Besse as chairman of the Banquet Committee reported that  Dave Petijean would be available for our annual banquet in December with the approval of the membership.
The first Saturday at the library for June is cancelled due to the Childrens Summer Reading Program activities that day.  Earl reported that he has spoken to the Friends of the Library and they are researching Heritage Quest to be available to library patrons.  In regards to people donating genealogy books to the library, personnel at the library would prefer cash donations to go to a general fund.  Jean will ask for clarification from the library staff and report back to the membership.
President Jean Kiesel announced that Bill Stafford from the Louisiana State Archives in Baton Rouge will speak on Resources of the State Archives at the  June meeting to be held at the UL Library.
Warren LeBlanc is requesting articles and information for our annual publication.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully Submitted,
Brenda Fuselier
